Incredible that I have yet to see even ONE (1) post about my best friend Naaber. My friend Naaber at Carm's Garm. My pal Naaber who gave me a necklace just for talking with him. Look at him. He just figured out multiclassing.

I beg all of you, talk to Naaber in Carm's Garms for more than one time (but tell him he sucks at being a fighter the first time you meet him).

His attempts at finding a class that suits his adventurous ambitions are literally the funniest thing.

Just got to Act 3 of Baldurs Gate and apparently a very important Dark Urge cutscene never triggered, because the biggest mystery of my playthrough just got spoiled by Naaber. :/

Actually, slight change of plans.

Rakha and her companions have had a terrible couple days. And I think they need a reminder that sometimes the world isn't all terrible and dark and bloody - sometimes instead it's just baffling and irritating!

And directly across the street from our next target of Danthelon's Dancing Axe is someone who can happily provide this reminder, free of charge.

"Put 'em up! Put 'em up!"

Our boy Naaber here doesn't realize how close he accidentally comes to just getting pasted into a wall here. Rakha has a violent startle response and is deep in the throes of unfolding memories regarding her reign as a cultist of bloody and vengeful murder, so she doesn't deal well with this strange little human barreling out of a nearby shop and starting to talk excitedly at her while waving his fists threateningly.

Luckily, however, it's already been established that one of the few things that can stop Rakha from indiscriminate violence is abject confusion - which this also certainly elicits.

"Put... what up?" she asks, blinking at him in bewilderment.

The boy's eyes widen and his mouth drops open and then he grins from ear to ear. "Yay!" he yelps brightly. "You spoke to me! Nobody ever talks to me!"

Rakha's head tips slowly over on one side. No one, in her recollection, has ever acted so unequivocally excited for her to talk to them. Not even Gortash, in his hungry-eyed greeting that still sits so fresh and sharp behind her.

The boy bounces up and down on the balls of his feet, seemingly as oblivious to her bewilderment as he is to the spiderweb of corruption and darkness lined across her face. "Your fists, silly!" he says eagerly. "I'm trying something out."

He puffs out his chest. "My name's Naaber - adventurer to be! Soon to be the best adventurer anyone's ever seen." Then his smile fades a little. "As soon as I figure out what kind of adventurer I'm going to be. What do you think? Could I be a fighter?"

Rakha stares at him blankly, then glances towards her companions.

Wyll, also startled out of his dark mood, is looking at the young man with distinct amusement. Lae'zel appears to be seriously considering the question, appraising Naaber from head to foot, and her disdainful scowl says clearly that she is finding him wanting. Minthara's eyes have rolled almost all the way back in her head with impatience.

Jaheira, who is operating on approximately two hours of sleep and spent the entire night keeping everyone from killing each other, has backed slightly away from the conversation and is leaned against the corner of the nearby building in paroxysms of silent laughter.

None of this except Lae'zel's response gives Rakha much of an indication how to answer. "Maybe... pick a different career?" she says cautiously.

"Whew!" Naaber says earnestly. "I was hoping you'd say that! To tell you the truth, I don't actually like hurting people very much. Or getting hurt." He pokes a finger cheerfully at Rakha's shoulder. "It's a good job I ran into you!"
